About this print
Few birds carry colour like a cock pheasant: a bottle-green head with scarlet wattles, a clean white collar, a deep copper body scaled in black, and a barred tail that can be longer than the rest of the bird. Introduced from Asia and now woven into the autumn countryside, it explodes from the grass with a clatter that stops your heart.
This piece sets him in a misty autumn field with a distant treeline, the long tail trailing behind. It opens the upland and sporting side of the collection, away from the water but in the same quiet, old-master light.
