About this print
The roseate spoonbill is the surprise of the southern coast: a big wading bird flushed in soft rose and deeper carmine, with a bare greenish head and a flat, spoon-shaped bill it sweeps side to side through the shallows. The colour comes from what it eats and deepens with age. For many people a first spoonbill is the most exotic bird they have ever seen at home.
This piece keeps the pink muted and painterly, sitting in the antique palette rather than shouting against it. It is the coastal colour note of the collection, on-aesthetic where a flamingo would tip into kitsch.
