About this print
If the great egret is the marsh's still point, the snowy egret is its live wire. It dashes through the shallows on black legs and bright yellow feet, stirring the bottom and stabbing at whatever bolts. In breeding season it raises a spray of fine plumes, the very feathers that nearly cost the species its existence in the plume-hunting years.
This piece keeps the white bird luminous and clearly drawn against soft water, the plumes catching the dawn. It hangs naturally beside the great egret and the heron in a wader group, and brings a little more movement to the wall.
